Those flowers (thistles?) growing over the turnout frog just make this shot! As sad as it is to see unused track and elevators, it's amazing to see what Mother nature can do to them in a short time. Left as is the roadbed would rival most gardener's wildflower beds. On CN's Inwood sub.(Manitoba) which was abandoned and finally torn up in 1992, a group of red-sided garter snakes actually made a winter den in a sinkhole in the unused roadbed. The den survived the track removal crews, and a large group of snakes return to it each fall to overwinter.
