If you have an iPhone, I invite you to try out the free Prairie Sentinels app to find grain elevators and record your sightings.
Prairie Sentinels displays a map of grain elevators across Canada and the USA – both existing and vanished. Each grain elevator’s coordinates are given (with a link to the Apple Map application for directions) and a link to its page here on Grain Elevators of Canada.
You can mark each elevator as “visited” and attach your own photos in the app. The photos are for your own reference only.
The map has filters to show visited, existing, or vanished grain elevators; you can also filter by type (wooden, steel, concrete). You can search the map for a particular elevator, province, or elevator company.
Lonnie Millett developed this app for his own use. I had the pleasure of beta testing the app and now it is released for general use.
You can find “Prairie Sentinels” in the app store or visit this link: Prairie Sentinels App – App Store
